Anyone got any ideas on practical life maths applications? The kids are all ready for more of a challenge and I'm struggling to come up with ways to apply more advanced maths problems in daily life....

Gee Al, that's a novel idea - Real Life Application for Maths Problems..schools don't even do that! Every kid I know wonders when, after school, will they EVER use the type of maths they have to learn!

We did a poo graph last year - everyone had to map their own paddock, score where the horse poo landed over a 7 day period and work out percentages over 3 different areas. That was pretty funny!...

I've been trying to get them interested in planning and organising a "mumma bake". Heaps of numbers there - calculating how many people are attending, multiplying recipes, prices, cost per meal etc...
